Early Years

Within the EYFS at Bournemouth Park Academy it is acknowledged and firmly believed that “Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.” (DfE 2020)

At Bournemouth Park Academy, we believe it is important to provide an Early Years education that aims to meet the individual needs of every child in our care. Children are made to feel safe and secure and are valued as individuals. Independence is fostered as are positive attitudes to learning and each child is encouraged to reach their potential. We believe play is essential for learning; it is a key way in which young children learn with enjoyment and challenge. Structured play, where the learning outcome has been clearly identified through careful planning and support, is integral to the provision in the EYFS.

We work from the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum 2021 alongside Development Matters 2021. There are seven areas of learning and development:

 Prime Areas:

-Communication and Language

-Physical development

-Personal, social and emotional development

Specific Areas:

-Literacy

-Mathematics

-Understanding the World

-Expressive Arts and Design

We use fun and exciting topics to engage and hook the children into their learning. During the Reception day your child will take part in short adult-led sessions including RWInc phonics, maths, and topic followed up with focused activities to further embed their learning. The children also have the opportunity to engage in child initiated activities both inside and outside following their own interests.
