Writing

For this week of Literacy, you are thinking about your achievements over the last school year in order to write your own school report.

You will need to think about how to use specific examples of what you have found difficult or hard in each subject, and how this has influenced your behaviour and mind-set within that subject. Think about any extra-curricular activities you enjoy doing and what type of pupil teachers around the school may think you are based on what they have seen (lunchtimes, break times, assemblies, trips out etc).

Continue to include Year 6 writing criteria such as paragraphs, high level vocabulary (Year 5/6 spellings – see below) and a range of punctuation in order to make report more sophisticated and interesting to read. Think about how you could use conjunctions to show how you have reflected on your behaviour and efforts e.g. Although I have found algebra particularly tricky, I have attacked each day with a ‘can-do’ attitude.

A rough guide for the week could be:

Monday

Reflect on your time in Year 6 in order to fill in the planning sheet below. Use the questions around the outside to help you develop your thoughts and ideas.

Tuesday – Thursday

Write your school report using the template below. This is the same template that your class teacher would have used to complete your final BPA report: you could compare them when you receive your actual report in due course!

There are some example report comments on another document to help you create your own if needed.

Friday

Carefully read over and edit what you have written so far, up-levelling and improving in a different colour if possible.

Finish writing your report, adding parent or principal comments if you have time.
