Guided Reading

How have you been finding the book so far? Can you remind yourselves or tell a grown-up what has happened in the book  so far?

We usually begin our Guided Reading lessons with some phonics so either spend 5 minutes going over some sounds on the sound chart, pick a sound to look for as you read the book or think up some words that go with a particular sound.

The PDF we have found includes all 3 books in the series, we are just reading the first one (Northern Lights).

Monday:

LI: To consolidate reading skills

Read the next chapter of the book. Try to summarise what you have read either on paper or to a family member. Use your 5 fingers to help you summarise 5 key points of the chapter.

Today, write a prediction about what you think might happen next in the story. Remember to use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Tuesday:

LI: To consolidate reading skills

Read the next chapter of the book. Try to summarise what you have read either on paper or to a family member. Use your 5 fingers to help you summarise 5 key points of the chapter.

Choose at least 3 characters from the book and create a character profile for each of these characters. You can do this in the format of a fact file or a role on the wall.

Wednesday (Video lesson):

LI: To consolidate reading skills.

Please complete this reading comprehension. Remember to think about all the skills you are using:

-recall and retrieval

-author viewpoint and language

-structure and organisation

-deduction and inference

Thursday:

LI: To consolidate reading skills (Thursday Zoom Lesson)

Read the next chapter of the book. Try to summarise what you have read either on paper or to a family member. Use your 5 fingers to help you summarise 5 key points of the chapter.

Look at reviews on good reads

Write your own review for Northern lights. When writing a review, you can think of: likes, dislikes, any questions you may have and who would you recommend it to and why.

Remember to take pictures of all your learning and send them in.

Friday:

LI: To compare different mediums of the same story.

In school, we would usually watch the film version of the book and make a grid to compare similarities and differences between the book and the film.

The film of this book is 'The Golden Compass'. Enjoy!
