Ask the children what they know about paragraphs, what they are and why we use them to assess prior knowledge.

  • Explain that a paragraph is a collection of sentences used in writing to introduce new sections of a story, characters or information. Paragraphs help the reader enjoy what has been written as they are used to organise and break up text into easy to read sections.
