Work through adverbs PowerPoint. Emphasis on - an adverb tells you where, why or how much something is done. Ask children to explain each adverb on each slide (where, why or how).
On paper children to rewrite sentences on slide 12 of the PowerPoint including their own adverbs.
Work through adverbs warm-up PowerPoint. Children to tell adult sentences including words from pinwheel on slide 7 of PowerPoint.
Children to write their own sentences including adverbs, two sentences for each type (where why and how).
Use the adverbs word mat for support if needed.
Show children spelling rule poster and discuss how we apply the spelling rule.
Children to explore weeks spellings using the spelling rule (happy, happily, angry, angrily, gentle, gently, simple, simply, second, secondly). Create a poster of your spellings for practise, can you use them in sentences?
Re-cap adverbs, children to explain what adverbs are for and how we use them. Give examples in sentences, where, why or how.
Children to look through their English writing for this week and use a purple pen to edit their work to include adverbs. Try to include at least 3 adverbs.
