This week we are going to be writing a setting description for Chapter 1 of Stig of the Dump.

 

Monday

Read through Chapter 1 of Stig of the Dump and make notes on any reference to where the story is set. 

Read through the good version setting description and create a checklist of what needs to be included in a setting description. You may also choose to draw an image of where the beginning of the story is set.

 

Tuesday

Recap the features of a setting description and read through the good version. 

Use the storyboard template to plan your writing, using a new box for each paragraph, drawing pictures of the setting and writing key words/ phrases you plan to use in your writing.

 

Wednesday

Recap the good version and focus on the opening paragraph. 

Today we are going to be writing the opening paragraph making sure to include conjunctions in our work. Highlight/ underline any conjunctions used in the opening paragraph and think about what ones you could use in your writing.

Using the good version, storyboard and conjunctions word mat for support, write the opening paragraph of your setting description. 

 

Thursday

Recap the good version and focus on the second paragraph. 

Today we are going to be writing the second paragraph making sure to include adjectives and adverbs in our work. Highlight/ underline any adjectives and adverbs used in the good version and think about what you could use in your writing.

Using the good version, storyboard and adjectives/ adverbs word mat for support, write the second paragraph of your setting description.

 

Friday

Recap the good version and focus on the third paragraph. 

Today we are going to be writing the final paragraph making sure to include a variety of sentence openers in our work. Highlight/ underline the different sentence openers used in the good version and think about what you could use in your writing.

Using the good version, storyboard and sentence openers word mat for support, write the final paragraph of your setting description.
