Monday - Watch the video "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Listen carefully to the music and notice parts of the music which go faster/slower/louder/quieter. As you watch have a think of the story that she is trying to tell. Does it make you feel happy? Sad? Excited? Listen to the piece of music again and close your eyes. Imagine where the Sugar Plum Fairy might be. What is around her? What else is there? (flowers, other fairies, a pond, a lake, snow - you decide)
Have a look at the Fantasy Settings - what can you see? How would you describe them?
Draw a detailed picture of the setting for the Sugar Plum Fairy. (Include as much detail as possible as this will make up your writing this week.
Tuesday - Starter: Choose one of the fantasy settings pictures. What can you see? Can you write down 10 nouns from the picture? Now can you add an adjective to describe each noun?
Re-watch the story of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Look at your picture and add any extra detail which you might think of as you listen again. Remind yourself what a noun is. Can you write at least 10 nouns (person, place, thing) that you can see in your picture? Now remind yourself what an adjective is. Look at each noun and think of two/three adjectives to describe each one.
eg noun = fairy
+ adjective = beautiful, little fairy
Remember, if you use more than one adjective, separate them with a comma.
Wednesday - Think of the five senses. Tomorrow we will be writing a setting description to go with our picture. A setting description gives us detailed information linked to the sense (see, hear, taste, feel, smell).
Read through the example of a setting description. Highlight examples of the senses and any good adjectives which you could use in your own writing.
Look back at your own setting picture. Can you write under each heading what you can smell, hear, see, feel if you were there?
Thursday/Friday - Today you are going to bring all your ideas from the week together. You are going to write a detailed setting description of your Sugar Plum Fairy story. You may want to listen to the music again to help you with more ideas.
Look at the preposition poster: (prepositions tell you where something is. eg next to, above, below, in, on, to the right etc.
Can you describe your setting using a range of prepositions, adjectives and using all the different senses?
Try and use a good range of language gained from the week.
