This week we are writing a diary entry from Hogarth's point of view.

Monday

Have a look at the good version of the diary entry. Annotate the key features of a diary entry - what needs to be included in a diary entry? Use these key features to create a checklist for your writing later on in the week. Pick out any key vocabulary you would like to use.

Tuesday

Using the good version to support you, create a storyboard to plan your diary entry.

Wednesday

Read through the opening paragraph of the diary entry - what is this paragraph telling us? Pick out any key vocabulary that you could use in your opening paragraph.

Today we are going to be writing our opening paragraph, making sure to include modal verbs in our writing. A modal verb indicates possibility, ability, permission or obligation e.g. can, will, could, should, might etc.

Using the good version (and word mat if needed), write a draft of your first paragraph, thinking carefully about the modal verbs you can use.

Thursday

Read through the second paragraph of the diary entry - what is the purpose of this paragraph? What does this part of the diary entry tell us? Pick out any key vocabulary that you could use in this paragraph.

Today we are going to be writing the second paragraph, thinking about conditional tense sentences that we can use. The conditional tense is when you indicate something which could happen on the condition that something else happens e.g. I will give you a green dojo if you complete you work. You should use the word "if" to express the conditional tense.

Using the good version (and word mat if needed), write a draft of your second paragraph using the conditional tense where you can.

Friday

Read through the third paragraph of the diary entry - what is the purpose of this paragraph? What does this part of the diary entry tell us? Pick out any key vocabulary that you could use in this paragraph.

Today we are going to be writing the third paragraph, making sure to use conjunctions in our writing. Conjunctions are used to join two sentences together and they make our writing more interesting e.g. and, if, because, so, when, although.

Using the good version (and word mat if needed), write a draft of your second paragraph making sure to use conjunctions.
