This week we will be writing a character description of the Iron Man.

A character description should tell us about a character and each paragraph should tell us something different.

Monday

Have a think about what you already know about a character description.

Read through the top copy character description of the Iron Man and create a checklist of what needs to be included in a character description.

Tuesday

Recap the features of a character description.

Look back at the paragraph 1 of the character description - what does this paragraph tell us about the Iron Man?

Pick out key vocabulary that tells us about the Iron Mans appearance (focus on adjectives and adverbs).

Write a draft of the first paragraph of your character description, thinking carefully about what adjectives and adverbs you can include.

Wednesday

Look at paragraph 2 of the character description - what does this paragraph tell us about the Iron Man?

Pick out any fronted adverbials from the top copy and create a list of fronted adverbials that you can use.

Fronted adverbials refer to words or phrases at the beginning of a sentence, used to describe the actions that follow (see fronted adverbials word mat for support).

Write a draft of the second paragraph of your character description, making sure to include fronted adverbials in your writing.

Thursday

Look at paragraph 3 of the character description - what does paragraph 3 tell us about the Iron Man?

Pick out any generalisers in the top copy and create a list of generalisers that you can use.

Generalisers add information to your writing to make the reader understand by adding a personal voice to the writing or to generalise a statement (see generaliser word mat for support).

Write a draft of the third paragraph of your character description, making sure to include generalisers in your writing.

Friday

Recap the features of character description by referring to your checklist made on Monday.

Read through your draft character description and edit with a purple pen. Look out for missing capital letters, opportunities for adjectives etc.

Write the final version of your character description.
