This week we are writing a letter from the perspective of a child evacuee in 1939.
Use the resources provided to write a letter that includes as many suitable features of the the year 6 writing criteria as you can .
Look at the pictures of child evacuees on the 'Evacuees Powerpoint' as they are leaving and as they arrive. Think about what the images show, including considering how the child or families in the photographs might have felt at that moment (as they were leaving, when they arrived).

Create two mind maps
Read the example letter, which is a real letter from an evacuee sent to her parents.
Highlight/ jot down the key features of the letter - How do we know this piece of writing is a letter?
Now highlight/ jot down the key vocabulary you could use for your own letter (pick out useful adjectives and emotions you couold use).
Read through the text again and think about whether she has answered any questions her parents may have had ?
Can you use your mind map from yesterday to plan some responses to use in your own letter? What events has she spoken about in her letter?
Storyboard the key events she talks about.
Using both your own mind maps, the example letter and your own knowledge start to write your letter. At least one paragraph.
Write in 1st person.
Use emotive language.
Include all letter features (Address, Dear...., Sign off).
Fronted adverbials (Nervously, In the morning...)
Subordinating Conjunctions (nevertheless, however ...)
